What Star Wars Movie Comes After Return of the Jedi?

After the success of the original Star Wars trilogy, many fans were left wondering what would come next for our favorite characters in a galaxy far, far away. The final film in the original trilogy, Return of the Jedi, left viewers with a sense of closure, but also a desire for more adventures with Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia.

So, what Star Wars movie comes after Return of the Jedi? The answer is..well, it’s complicated.

In terms of release order, the first film to come after Return of the Jedi was actually The Phantom Menace. This prequel film was released in 1999 and takes place decades before the events of the original trilogy. It tells the story of how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader and sets up many of the events that take place later in the series.

However, if we’re talking about chronological order within the Star Wars universe itself, then the next movie to come after Return of the Jedi is actually The Force Awakens. This film takes place 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi and introduces us to a new generation of heroes and villains.

But wait! There’s more. In addition to The Force Awakens (which is technically Episode VII), there are also two other movies that take place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens: The Last Jedi (Episode VIII) and The Rise of Skywalker (Episode IX).

Both films continue the storylines introduced in The Force Awakens and bring an end to what has become known as “the sequel trilogy.” Without giving too much away for those who haven’t seen them yet (although let’s be real – if you haven’t seen them by now, what are you waiting for?), both films feature epic battles between good and evil and explore themes such as redemption and sacrifice.

So there you have it – depending on how you look at it, there are either three or four movies that come after Return of the Jedi. Regardless of which one you choose to watch next, the Star Wars saga continues to captivate audiences of all ages and transport them to a world filled with adventure, danger, and hope.

If you’re new to the franchise or just looking for a refresher, be sure to check out the original trilogy (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi) before diving into the newer films. And may the Force be with you!
