Is There Another Star Trek Movie in Production?

If you’re a fan of the Star Trek franchise, you may be wondering if there’s another movie in production. Well, the answer is yes!

In fact, there are currently two Star Trek movies in development. Let’s take a closer look at what we know so far.

Untitled Star Trek Film

The first movie in development is an untitled Star Trek film that is being produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions. There aren’t many details available about this movie yet, but we do know that it will be directed by Matt Shakman, who has previously directed episodes of Game of Thrones and WandaVision.

Rumors suggest that this movie will feature a new cast of characters and will not be connected to the previous Star Trek films that were released in 2009, 2013, and 2016. However, these rumors have not been confirmed by the studio or any of the filmmakers involved.

Star Trek IV

The second movie in development is Star Trek IV, which will be a direct sequel to the 2016 film Star Trek Beyond. This movie has been in development for several years and has gone through several different iterations.

Initially, it was reported that Chris Hemsworth would reprise his role as George Kirk (Captain Kirk’s father) in the film. However, negotiations with Hemsworth fell through and he is no longer involved with the project.

More recently, it was reported that Legion creator Noah Hawley was set to write and direct the film. However, in December 2020, it was announced that Paramount Pictures had put the project on hold indefinitely.

Conclusion

So while there are definitely new Star Trek movies in development, it’s still unclear when we’ll actually get to see them. The untitled Star Trek film from Bad Robot Productions is still in the very early stages of development, while Star Trek IV has been put on hold indefinitely.

However, with the recent success of Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard on CBS All Access (now Paramount+), it’s clear that there is still a lot of interest in the franchise. Hopefully, we’ll get some more concrete information about these new movies soon!
