When the first Star Wars movie, “A New Hope,” hit theaters in 1977, it was an instant hit. The movie franchise has since spawned eight sequels and spin-offs, making it one of the most successful movie franchises in history. However, with the recent release of “The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019, many fans are wondering if the Star Wars franchise is over.
The End of Skywalker Saga
“The Rise of Skywalker” marked the end of the Skywalker Saga, which has been at the heart of the Star Wars franchise since its inception. The movie wrapped up the storylines for characters like Rey, Finn, and Poe while also giving a fitting end to legacy characters like Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.
With this conclusion comes a sense of finality to the entire Star Wars franchise. Fans have grown attached to these characters and their stories over decades, making it difficult to imagine a future without them. However, just because “The Rise of Skywalker” is over doesn’t mean that we’ve seen the last of Star Wars.
The Future Beyond Skywalker
As Disney now owns Lucasfilm (the company behind Star Wars), they have big plans for expanding upon this universe. Just recently there have been several announcements regarding new TV shows and movies that will be set in this galaxy far far away.
One example is “The Mandalorian,” a TV series that takes place after Return Of The Jedi which premiered on Disney+ in 2019. The show has already proved to be popular among fans as it explores new areas within this universe while still connecting to familiar elements like bounty hunters and Stormtroopers.
Another example is “Rogue Squadron,” a movie directed by Patty Jenkins which will follow a group of fighter pilots who band together to fight against evil forces within this universe. This standalone film is set to hit theaters on December 22nd, 2023.
While the Skywalker Saga may have concluded with “The Rise of Skywalker,” the future of Star Wars is bright. With new TV shows and movies in development, there are plenty of opportunities for fans to continue exploring this universe.
It’s important to remember that Star Wars has always been about more than just one group of characters. It’s a world full of possibilities and stories waiting to be told. So while we may have said goodbye to some beloved characters, we can rest assured that the Star Wars franchise is far from over.
