How Do You Make a Video Camera Cake?

Are you planning a special occasion for someone who loves photography or videography? Why not surprise them with a video camera cake!

This unique dessert will impress your guests and can be customized to fit any occasion. Here’s how you can make one:

What You’ll Need:

  • Two 9-inch round cakes
  • Buttercream frosting
  • Fondant (black, white, and gray)
  • Cake board or platter
  • Ruler
  • X-Acto knife or pizza cutter
  • Fondant smoother
  • Small paintbrush

Instructions:

Step 1: Bake the Cakes

Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the cake mix box. Grease two 9-inch round cake pans with cooking spray or butter, then flour them lightly.

Prepare the cake batter according to the package instructions and divide it evenly between the two pans. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of each cake comes out clean. Let them cool completely.

Step 2: Cut and Stack the Cakes

Once your cakes are cooled, use an X-Acto knife or pizza cutter to level off any domed tops so that they are flat. Place one of the cakes on a cake board or platter with the flat side facing up. Spread a layer of buttercream frosting on top of it, then place the second cake on top with its flat side facing down.

Step 3: Cover in Black Fondant

Roll out black fondant into a large rectangle big enough to cover the entire cake. Drape the fondant over the cake, smoothing it down with your hands and a fondant smoother to avoid any wrinkles or bubbles. Trim off any excess fondant at the bottom with an X-Acto knife or pizza cutter.

Step 4: Add Details with White and Gray Fondant

Roll out white fondant into thin strips to form the lens of the camera and cut it into a circle. Attach it to the cake using a small amount of water or edible glue. Roll out gray fondant and cut out a rectangle for the viewfinder, then attach it above the lens with water or glue.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

Use black fondant to create additional details such as buttons, dials, and straps. You can also use a small paintbrush and food coloring to add some extra touches like logos or lettering.

There you have it! Your own video camera cake that’s sure to impress your guests. Don’t forget to take pictures of your masterpiece before you slice it up and enjoy!
