Can You Pause iPhone Video Camera?

Have you ever been in a situation where you desperately needed to pause your iPhone video camera? Maybe you were recording a video and needed to take a quick break, or maybe something happened mid-recording that you wanted to address before continuing. Whatever the reason may be, the question remains – can you actually pause your iPhone video camera?

Well, the answer is no – you cannot technically pause your iPhone video camera. When you start recording a video, the camera app will record continuously until you either stop the recording yourself or run out of storage space on your device. However, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t workarounds or alternative solutions that can help you achieve a similar result.

One option is to use the iOS 14’s new QuickTake feature. This feature allows users to start recording a video by simply holding down the shutter button on their iPhone’s camera app.

But here’s where it gets interesting – if you continue holding down the shutter button after starting the recording, it will switch to burst mode and take multiple photos instead of continuing to record a video. This essentially pauses your video recording and allows you to capture still images while maintaining the same composition as your original shot.

Another option is to simply stop and restart the recording manually. While this may not be as seamless as pausing and resuming with one tap, it still gets the job done.

To stop a current recording, all you have to do is tap on the red square icon that appears on your screen while recording. This will instantly stop the current recording and save it as a separate file in your Photos app.

Once you’re ready to start again, simply open up your camera app and start a new recording by tapping on the red record button again. The new footage will be saved as another separate file in your Photos app.

While these options may not provide an actual “pause” function for your iPhone video camera, they still allow for some flexibility and control when it comes to recording videos on your device. So the next time you find yourself in a situation where you need to take a break mid-recording, don’t fret – just use one of these workarounds and keep on shooting!
